Wazza's Caramel Dumplings
Oh my, these beautiful Caramel Dumplings bring back many happy memories of bush camping and enjoying them while sitting around our campfire, it used to be a fight to get to scrape out the caramel sauce from the camp oven.
Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cups S.R flour
- pinch salt
- 30 gm ( 1oz) butter
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/3 cup milk
Caramel Sauce
- 30gm butter
- 1 1/2 cups brown sugar, firmly packed
- pinch salt
- 1/12 cups water
Method
- Sift flour and salt into a bowl
- rub in butter and add sugar
- add combined milk and essence, mix well
- drop tablespoons of dumpling dough into simmering sauce
- cover and simmer 20 minutes
- serve with cream
Sauce
- Combine all ingredients in lare saucepan
- stir constantly until boiling
- reduce heat
The dumplings can be cooked in a large pan on your stove or in a camp oven over the coals of your campfire, just be careful not to let them get too hot or the caramel sauce will burn
