The Fibre Movement

Irritable Bowel Syndrome is one of the most common conditions of our modern lifestyles, or rather it is the title given to every bowel problem that can't otherwise be diagnosed. Often our bodies are just blocked up with food leftovers stuck in our digestive passages and you may have read about the benefits of detoxing to clear out this mess.

The key ingredient of this smoothie is Psyllium Husk, a gluten free fibre made from the seeds of the Plantago Ovata plant from India and Pakistan. It doesn't completely dissolve but rather can become gluggy when added to juices so blending it into a smoothie helps smooth the texture and makes it easier to drink. The psyllium acts like a broom in your system, sweeping out the bits that are stuck to your insides, but it is very important to drink lots of water to prevent dehydration.

Ingredients

  • 3 teaspoons of psyllium husk
  • 1 x large frozen banana
  • 250ml vanilla soy milk
  • 2 x teaspoons of honey
  • 1 x tablespoon of peanut butter
  • 1 x teaspoon of cinnamon

Method

  1. Add all ingredients to blender and process on high for 4 minutes.
  2. Pour some honey around the inside of the glass before adding smoothie mixture
  3. Sprinkle top with cinnamon
  4. Drink quickly as the psyllium can go gluggy if left to sit
