Dairy Free Smoothies

I always loved milkshakes, or should I say ice-cream shakes with a bit of milk added, so developing a dairy intolerance probably shouldn't be surprising. Having gone without ice-cream, milkshakes, smoothies and thickshakes for years I decided to investigate the dairy free options and have come up with the following ways to make the perfect dairy free smoothies.

Tip 1 - So Good Vanilla Soy Milk
This stuff is delicious and comes in a matching ice-cream option too. The milk also comes in chocolate, strawberry, coffee and plain flavours.

Tip 2 - Freeze Your Fruit
Putting fruit in the freezer gives the best consistency when blended with milk and this means I can avoid the extra calories of the ice-cream (most of the time).

Tip 3 - Select Creamy Fruits
For the smoothest texture use creamy fruits such as frozen mango and frozen banana, or mix fruits like berries with a frozen banana to balance the texture of the seeds in the berries

Tip 4 - Buy In Bulk
Purchasing fruit by the tray or case becomes really cost effective. Freeze individual portions in bags or containers, taking out of the freezer and putting them straight into the blender with milk.

Tip 5 - Dairy Lovers
If you want to make dairy versions of these smoothies, just replace the soy ice-cream with normal ice-cream and the soy milk with plain milk.
