Choc Torte
You can make a few of these at a time if you have enough tins, they freeze exceptionally well and can be used as a cake or dessert, cut in half and fill with jam and cream., or soak some strawberries in liquer and use as a filling with cream ---adults only for that one though!
Ingredients
- 1 cup water
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 125 gm butter
- 2 tablespoons cocoa
- 1/2 teaspoon bi carb soda
- 1 1/2 cups S.R flour
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts if you wish
Method
- Put water, sugar, butter, cocoa and bi carb soda in large saucepan
- Melt then simmer for 10 minutes
- Keep an eye on it as the soda will make it rise and foam over the top
- Cool for 5 minutes
- Add flour and eggs, beat well with a whisk, pour into 20cm greased and lined round tin
- Bake in moderate oven 35 to 45 minutes or till skewer comes out clean
- Cool in tin
