Choc Torte

You can make a few of these at a time if you have enough tins, they freeze exceptionally well and can be used as a cake or dessert, cut in half and fill with jam and cream., or soak some strawberries in liquer and use as a filling with cream ---adults only for that one though!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 125 gm butter
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa
  • 1/2 teaspoon bi carb soda
  • 1 1/2 cups S.R flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts if you wish

Method

  • Put water, sugar, butter, cocoa and bi carb soda in large saucepan
  • Melt then simmer for 10 minutes
  • Keep an eye on it as the soda will make it rise and foam over the top
  • Cool for 5 minutes
  • Add flour and eggs,  beat well with a whisk, pour into 20cm greased and lined round tin
  • Bake in moderate oven 35 to 45 minutes or till skewer comes out clean
  • Cool in tin
